The Times Higher Education (THE), based in the United Kingdom, has recently published the World University Rankings for 2025, which features 2,857 institutions from 115 countries and regions. The rankings indicate that the University of Oxford is the highest-ranked university in the world.
In Asia, Tsinghua University in China is positioned at 12th, while Peking University follows closely at 13th. The National University of Singapore is ranked 17th, distinguishing itself as the leading university in the region. The United Arab Emirates (UAE), recognized as the most affluent and advanced nation in the Middle East, is also making notable strides in higher education.
The Times Higher Education reveals that the UAE has 15 universities represented in the new 2025 list. Abu Dhabi University is the highest-ranked university in the UAE, placed at 191st, while Khalifa University is categorized within the 201-250 range. The United Arab Emirates University is ranked between 251-300, and the University of Sharjah is positioned at 301-350.
On the other hand, Zayed University is ranked between 351-400, and Ajman University falls within the 401-500 range. Al Ain University also shares the 401-500 ranking, while the American University of Sharjah is listed between 601-800 globally.
The report from Times Higher Education also includes the American University in Dubai, the American University in the Emirates (AUE), and the American University of Ras Al Khaimah. The 2025 World University rankings also feature other institutions like Gulf Medical University, the British University in Dubai, RAK Medical and Health Sciences University, and the University of Dubai.
