A Chinese surgeon from Shanghai Chest Hospital has successfully completed a remote surgery on a patient in Kashgar, Xinjiang Province, China, 5000 kilometers away, using a high-tech 5G surgical robotics system.
A middle-aged woman with a lung tumor, originally diagnosed three years ago, was selected for a high-tech 5G remote surgical procedure after a thorough review of her medical records. The highly intricate robotic surgery lasted an hour and was successfully completed without any complications.
Moreover, surgeons at the Shanghai Chest Hospital efficiently control this robotic system from a distance of 5,000 kilometers through powerful 5G telecommunications. In fact, Shanghai Chest Hospital in China has surpassed the record of 1,000 thoracic operations per year using a surgical robotic system.
According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China’s 5G network now covers every city in the country and reaches nearly 90% of the rural areas. Moreover, as of July 2024, more than 3.84 million 5G base stations have been installed throughout China, accounting for about 60% of the total 5G stations worldwide.
Moreover, China is currently conducting extensive research on several new high-tech technologies in the medical field. These include artificial intelligence, nanomedicine, genetics, and robotics engineering. As of 2022, calculations show that over 290,000 robotic systems are in use across various industrial sectors in China, representing approximately 50% of the total global robot usage.
In recent years, technological innovation, research, and development have been progressing rapidly worldwide. China, in particular, invests hundreds of billions of dollars in world-class education, innovation, and research. Additionally, China, as a major player, holds approximately 38% of global trade and economic activity.
